Al Ain Edge Past Al Jazira 1–0 in Dramatic Derby Finish
In a thrilling Matchweek 15 clash, Al Ain secured a vital 1–0 victory over Al Jazira in the Abu Dhabi derby thanks to a late winner by Alejandro Romero.
The first half was marked by tactical caution from both teams, with chances at a premium as disciplined defending kept the scoreline level. Al Ain looked more assertive after the 20-minute mark when Soufiane Rahimi unleashed a powerful effort from distance that forced a sharp save from Al Jazira’s goalkeeper Ali Khaseif.
Despite pressure from Al Ain, including a disallowed Kodjo Laba goal for offside just before halftime, neither side managed to break through before the break.
The deadlock was finally broken late in the game. Seven minutes from time, Romero collected the ball at the edge of the area and curled a superb strike into the bottom corner, leaving Khaseif with no chance and igniting celebrations among the visiting support.
Al Jazira pushed forward in the closing stages in search of an equaliser, but Al Ain’s defence held firm to preserve the narrow lead and claim all three points in a hard-fought encounter.
