Barcelona capitalized on a rare stumble by arch-rivals Real Madrid to move back to the top of the Spanish La Liga standings after a convincing 3–0 win over Levante on Sunday.

Goals from Marc Bernal, Frenkie de Jong and Fermín López gave Barcelona a comfortable victory at the Camp Nou, snapping a two-game losing run and ending a period in which Real Madrid had enjoyed eight straight league wins.

The Catalan club had struggled in recent fixtures, including a loss to Girona in the league and a heavy defeat to Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semifinals, but they responded strongly against Levante.

“It was important to win and earn three points again,” defender João Cancelo said, highlighting Barcelona’s need to bounce back after disappointing results.

With this win, Barcelona now sits one point above Real Madrid in the title race, as Madrid were beaten 2–1 by Osasuna on Saturday.

Levante, meanwhile, remain in the relegation zone, unable to halt a difficult run of form that now includes four straight defeats.
